FRANKFURT, Germany, June 25, 2018 — E4 Computer Engineering, teaming up with Cavium, is very proud to promote and sustain the UPC Team at the Student Cluster Competition 2018, which takes place on June 24th – 28th in Frankfurt, Germany at ISC18.
During the three days of the Conference, twelve teams of students will compete on advancing STEM and HPC disciplines. The teams will have the opportunity to showcase systems of their own design, adhering to the rules of the competition demanding strict power constraints while achieving the highest performance across a series of standard HPC benchmarks and applications.
With the target of reaching the best balance between power consumption and best performance, E4 designed for the UPC team a highly effective platform: 8 nodes Arm cluster, based on the latest Arm®v8-A Cavium ThunderX2 SoC, featuring two sockets per compute node, which sums up a total of up to 448 physical cores and 1792 threads. The cluster is assembled in a 28U standard rack, including compute nodes, switches and air cooling. The nodes are interconnected with a Mellanox Infiniband EDR network with up to 100 Gb/s per node.
“E4 is honored to join forces with Cavium and UCP to support the team in this interesting journey, – said Cosimo Gianfreda, CTO at E4 Computer Engineering, – “We have always been encouraging the new generations and supporting the work of students and scientists who are as passionate about HPC as we are. Besides, our experience on Arm architecture and the collaboration with partners like Cavium has always made the difference”.
“UCP and BSC are very pleased to receive for the third year in a row the endorsement of E4 Computer Engineering for this year competition- said Filippo Mantovani, Advisor of the team, Barcelona Super Computing – It is always a great satisfaction to see students put to work what they learn in classes. Working side-by-side with other students and competing with their peers is a great educational journey. Making this experience with partner like E4 and Cavium exposes the students to the state-of-the-art and friendly industrial environment and increases the chances of reaching the highest rankings in the competition.”
“The ISC Student Cluster Competition is a tremendous opportunity for Cavium and E4 to partner together to support the growth and the development of the engineers who will be driving the future of our industry,” said Larry Wikelius, Vice President Software Ecosystem and Solutions Group at Cavium, Inc. “We believe that optimizing solutions on the innovative architecture of ThunderX2 systems as part of this competition will further inspire these students and allow them to experience the Arm based technology that is exciting the entire HPC industry.”
