NEW ORLEANS, La., Nov. 13 — Close to 10,000 experts will gather in New Orleans for the High Performance Computing (HPC) event of the year. During the six day event, SC14 will unveil groundbreaking innovations and the world’s fastest Computer Network.

The exhibition hall will feature more than 360 exhibits, as well as the latest and greatest technologies from industry, academia and government research organizations. These developments, many of which are being seen for the first time in New Orleans, are critical in solving some of the toughest and most far-reaching problems of our time. Touching every corner of science, investment banking, medical developments and precision storm predicting, HPC has an impact on every person’s daily life. Some major topics being discussed include:

• Storm Prediction & Climate Modeling: Supercomputers are helping scientists to better understand climate modeling and to more accurately predict the path of the next hurricane or superstorm. Hear directly from organizations such as National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Lawrence Livermore National Lab, MIT and NASA on their latest advancements in the field. Watch the preview video
• Consumer Goods: Companies like Procter and Gamble and others use HPC extensively to develop consumer products and services that either improve their performance or lighten their environmental impact.  A primary focus is on economic and environmental impact, and secondarily about impact on our daily lives. Photo Opportunity: show the evolution in packaging of common household goods such as laundry detergent. Watch the preview video
• Infectious Diseases: Hear from organizations like the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and IBM on how supercomputers are being utilized to better control and contain global diseases like Ebola.
• Animation: Lincoln Wallen of DreamWorks Animation will present on how HPC is used in creating award-winning animation for films such as Shrek, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon 2. The studio has worked diligently to maximize artist productivity and allow computers to work at the speed of creativity.

SC14 brings together the most respected minds in high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis to debut the research and innovation that will open the door to new scientific and economic opportunities.

The Annual Supercomputing Conference was last held in New Orleans in 2010. This year, the group is projected to have an economic impact of nearly $13 million!
