Oct. 2, 2024 — The JUPITER Research and Early Access Program (JUREAP) provides the framework for testing and preparing hardware and applications for the first European exascale supercomputer, JUPITER. The GCS Exascale Pioneer Call recently opened and will close on October 28, 2024. The initial phase of JUREAP, the Scalability and Performance Evaluation Phase (SPEP), is currently underway. SPEP applications will remain open until October 7, 2024.
SPEP enables the evaluation and optimization of the exascale capabilities of applications. Such an evaluation is also essential for the GCS Exascale Pioneer Call. The goal of the Call is to identify approximately 20 applications that have proven exascale potential, promise scientifically groundbreaking insights, and have high societal relevance. The Call is open until October 28, 2024, the results are expected in early January 2025.
The selected applications will be awarded with large-scale compute resources on JUPITER after the full launch of JUPITER, when the granted computing resources will become available. The applications will also be able to use a significant share of the available computing resources during the construction phase of JUPITER and prepare for the full launch of JUPITER. This preparation period will take place in the second phase of JUREAP, the Porting and Optimizing Phase (POP).
The combination of SPEP, GCS Exascale Pioneer Call, POP, and the final phase in JUREAP, the Outstanding Research Phase (ORP), is a unique opportunity for users to take European science to the next level – faster, further, and more sophisticated than ever before.
Scientists are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this interlocking opportunity and to intensify the exascale journey towards JUPITER. Further details on SPEP can be found here.
