Mellanox ConnectX-5 Ethernet Adapter Wins Analyst Award for Best Networking Chip

January 16, 2018

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & YOKNEAM, Israel, Jan. 16, 2018 — Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that the Mellanox ConnectX-5 Ethernet Adapter IC has received The Linley Group’s Analyst Choice Award for “Best Networking Chip” in 2017.

The ConnectX-5 industry-leading dual port 10, 25, 40, 50 and 100Gb/s Ethernet adapter has set new performance records, delivering as low as 700ns latency and up to 140 million packets per second (Mpps) of forwarding message rate running the open source Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). ConnectX-5 integrates a programmable flow-based Ethernet switch subsystem, an embedded PCIe Gen4 switch and Mellanox’s Multi-Host technology thereby enabling network connectivity with up to 4 hosts on a single adapter for improved data center total cost of ownership. ConnectX-5 acceleration engines, such as remote direct memory access (RDMA), NVMe-over-Fabrics, open virtual switching (OVS), routing, load-balancing and advanced DPDK offloads deliver world-leading performance for the cloud, enterprise data center, Web2.0, deep learning, database, financial applications and more.

“We perform a rigorous review of the networking silicon reaching production each year, and the Mellanox ConnectX-5 EN stands out as the most feature-rich and high performance Ethernet adapter silicon,” said Bob Wheeler, principal analyst at The Linley Group. “Mellanox has consistently set a high bar when it comes to maximizing server networking efficiency, and they are delivering unique offloads for the fast-growing NVMe over Fabrics market.”

“We are proud to be the recipient of this year’s Analyst Choice Award for the ConnectX-5 Ethernet adapter,” said Yael Shenhav, vice president, product marketing, Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox has consistently innovated with our market-leading adapter technologies, each generation offering higher throughputs, lower latencies and more of the accelerations our customers need to maximize their data center’s potential and improve their total cost of ownership.”

The ConnectX family of network adapters support both Ethernet and InfiniBand, offering unmatched RDMA features and capabilities to future-proof data center investments. With full support for RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) and advanced tunneling offloads such as VxLAN, NVGRE and Geneve, ConnectX enables servers and appliances to support the latest networking and storage protocols.

The Linley Group Analysts’ Choice Awards recognize the top semiconductor products of 2017 in several categories, including embedded processors, server processors, networking chips, and related technology. To choose each winner, The Linley Group’s team of technology analysts gather to discuss the merits of the top offerings that entered production in 2017. They evaluate the combined advantages in power, performance, features, and cost of each device for their target end application and market.
