March 3 — From May 16-18, 2017, PRACE will organise the fourth edition of its Scientific and Industrial Conference – PRACEdays17 – under the motto “HPC for Innovation: when Science meets Industry” in Barcelona, Spain, where the PRACE Ada Lovelace Award for HPC will be presented. PRACE initiated this Award in 2016 at PRACEdays16, and Zoe Cournia from Greece was the inaugural awardee.
PRACE is happy to receive your nomination for the Award. The nomination process is fully open via this Call for Nominations published on the PRACE website and via different social media channels. Nominations should be sent to [email protected] by Friday March 17, 2017.
The winner of the Award will be invited to participate in the concluding Panel Session at PRACEdays17, and will receive a cash prize of € 1 000 as well as a certificate and an engraved crystal trophy.
A nomination should include the following:
- Name, address, phone number, and email address of nominator (person making the nomination). The nomination should be submitted by a recognised member of the HPC community.
- Name, address, and email address of the nominee (person being nominated).
- The nomination statement addressing why the nominee should receive this award, should include a description of the first two criteria (see below) in detail within half page each (max. 300 words each)
- Copy of the nominee’s CV, certificates, listing publications (with indication of the h-index), honours, etc. should be provided.
The selection criteria are:
- Outstanding impact on HPC research, computational science or service provision at a global level.
- Role model for women beginning careers in HPC.
- The winner of this award must be a young female scientist (PhD +10 years max, excluding parental leave)[1] who is currently working in Europe or has been working in Europe during the past three years.
[1] ERC rules will apply: the 10 years start on the PhD title date and end with the date when the award is given; a flat rate of 18 months is added due to parental leave.
The Selection Committee is composed of:
- Jürgen Kohler: ex-Chair of the PRACE Industrial Advisory Committee, Daimler AG, Germany, and member of the Selection Committee since 2016
- Mateo Valero: SC15 award winner for outstanding contribution to HPC, Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Spain, and member of the Selection Committee since 2016
- Richard Kenway: ex-Chair of the PRACE Scientific Steering Committee, Tait Professor of Mathematical Physics, UK, and Member of the Selection Committee since 2016
- Laura Grigori: Member of the PRACE Scientific Steering Committee, and Director of Research at INRIA/University Pierre and Marie Curie, France
- Christoph Schütte: Vice-Chair of the PRACE Scientific Steering Committee, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Free University of Berlin, Germany
- Suzanne Talon: CEO of Calcul Québec, Canada
The committee will (partially) change every 2 years.
