RAND and LLNL Combine HPC and Public Policy Analysis for Demonstration of Water Resource Management

Aug. 25 — Researchers from the RAND Corporation and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have joined forces to combine high-performance computing with innovative public policy analysis to improve planning for particularly complex issues such as water resource management.

Building on previous work conducted by RAND on the Colorado River Basin in 2012, RAND and the High Performance Computing Innovation Center at Lawrence Livermore National Lab hosted a joint workshop to employ high-performance computer simulations to stress-test several water management strategies over a vast number of plausible future scenarios in near real time. SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 25 — Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: WDC), a global storage technology and solutions leader, today announced that SoftBank Corp. (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) has adopted the SanDisk InfiniFlash all-flash storage platform for its software-defined storage solution.

Previously, SoftBank was running an in-house traditional storage system combining hard disk drives (HDD) and solid state drives (SSD) for some of its applications. Read more…
