TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 2, 2021 — Hewlett Packard Enterprise today announced that it has established HPE Taiwan as a global strategic hub for next-generation technology and as a Center of Excellence as part of its global supply chain model. HPE Taiwan is now the company’s largest hardware design center outside of the U.S. and will focus on driving new innovations and products in market-leading areas like 5G, edge and high-performance computing.
The move is expected to create more new jobs in Taiwan. The new positions will cover a range of disciplines and levels, mostly in global operations and advanced engineering. HPE has already grown its Taiwan workforce by 30% in the last three years and is currently recruiting more than 100 new positions.
“Customers need secure connectivity, faster insights from data, and a cloud experience everywhere, and our teams in Taiwan are at the forefront of innovating to meet these needs and anticipate future demands,” said Jon Wang, managing director, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Taiwan. “The HPE team in Taiwan plays a strategic role in facilitating HPE’s critical supply chain needs, and our investment in this important market over the last 50 years has continued to expand due to its technology-focused economy, experienced supplier ecosystem and highly skilled people.”
“I am delighted to personally witness HPE’s commitment to investing in Taiwan. HPE has made significant contributions to Taiwan, whether in terms of technological innovation, talent cultivation, or as a major purchaser of data storage and server equipment,” said Vice President Lai. “On behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, I want to thank HPE for deepening its commitment to Taiwan and establishing Taiwan as a strategic center for global operations and next generation technologies, which holds significance for Taiwan’s future development.”
Investing in HPE Taiwan Lab
HPE Taiwan leads new product development for rack, tower, blades, and storage services which will be enhanced by a significant multi-million-dollar upgrade and expansion to the existing HPE Taiwan Lab. The HPE Taiwan Lab will provide the latest equipment and facilities for engineering teams to develop, design and test new, cutting-edge technologies and should be completed later this year.
The Taiwan engineering teams are involved in the innovation and development of HPE’s broad compute portfolio that stretches from edge to exascale and is optimized for any business, whether it be public, private, large or small. For example, HPE announced earlier this year its Taiwan-designed HPE Open RAN Solution Stack, which features the new HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen10 Plus server and is the industry’s first Open RAN (radio access network) workload optimized server, is helping support broad-scale 5G implementation. HPE Taiwan engineers were also involved in the development for HPE’s new portfolios based on the third generation AMD EPYC processor and the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor.
Creating a Center of Excellence for Global Supply Chain
Taiwan suppliers are strategically important to HPE’s supply chain and provide world class manufacturing services to HPE. HPE Taiwan has therefore become a critical hub for several of the company’s global supply chain functions including strategic sourcing, planning & materials management, and engineering. The Global Center of Excellence (COE) for Strategic Sourcing, which is led out of Taiwan, will leverage its highly skilled local workforce and benefit significantly from the company’s long-standing relationships with market-leading technology companies in Taiwan.
HPE Employee-Focused Work Culture and Benefits
HPE has been recognized as an employer of choice for its industry-leading workplace benefits, like six months of paid parental leave for both mothers and fathers, and “Wellness Fridays”, which encourages team members to leave work early one Friday each month to focus on personal health and wellness.
The company is committed to being unconditionally inclusive and believes that work should fit into people’s lives. HPE’s culture and programs encourage everyone’s unique voice to be heard regardless of seniority, or background, while offering team members the flexibility to fit work into their personal lives in order to support personal well-being.
HPE’s workforce also benefits from the company’s flexible and empowered work style. Under its ‘Edge to Office’ vision of work that was announced at the end 2020, the company reimagined its approach to the workplace, transforming its offices into innovation, culture and collaboration centers, where team members can work from home and come into the office when needed and to connect with their colleagues. The new approach to work was fast-tracked by the pandemic and was informed by employee feedback that revealed that majority of HPE team members valued the flexibility and autonomy of working from outside the office.
In addition, HPE Taiwan’s global strategic hub offers its workforce great opportunities for expanded career paths and skills development.
