HPC & AI Wall StreetSAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 10, 2019 — The HPC User Forum has selected WR Hambrecht Partner and Chief Technology Officer, Thomas Thurston to speak at its 76th HPC User Forum, March 30th to April 1st at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal, Princeton, New Jersey. Thurston will give a talk titled, “Using HPC-enabled AI to Guide Investment Strategies for Finding and Funding Startups.”
Thurston, a widely respected Venture Capitalist and Data Scientist, is known for using data science and HPC to identify disruptive startups with an extraordinarily high success rate. Since 2008, his team has helped guide billions of dollars in growth efforts using machine learning, complex systems modeling and unstructured data mining, to demonstrate the power of HPC when harnessed effectively.
Thurston will describe how his fund is using technology to gain unique insights into early startups that otherwise disclose little or no public data. His discussion highlights counter-intuitive insights about what is, and what isn’t, predictive of new business success, along with a discussion of current challenges of analyzing potential startup investments and how companies are grappling with the promises and perils of executive decision making in a world of increasingly advanced computing.

About the HPC User Forum
The HPC User Forum was established in 1999 to promote the health of the global HPC industry and address issues of common concern to users. The organization is directed by a volunteer Steering Committee of users from government, industry and academia, and is operated for the users by market analyst firm Hyperion Research. The User Forum holds two full-membership meetings a year in the United States, as well as two meetings annually in international locations.
