Pete Ungaro

Pete Ungaro
CEO, Cray Inc.

The future just keeps getting brighter at Cray these days. It’s in no small part due to the strategic genius of its charismatic CEO, Peter Ungaro. Ungaro is largely credited for masterminding Cray’s entry into the multi-billion dollar “Big Data” market in early 2012 with the introduction of YARC Data. Following Cray’s recent acquisition of Appro, shareholders are experiencing a fresh dose of investor confidence, as evidenced by the steady increase in Cray’s stock value over the past few years. So what’s next on the radar from Cray this year? Only time will tell, but you can bet we are following Mr. Ungaro again this year.

Peter Ungaro serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Cray Inc. Prior to his appointment as President in March 2005, and Chief Executive Officer in August 2005, Mr. Ungaro served as Senior Vice President responsible for sales, marketing and services. In that role Mr. Ungaro created and implemented Cray’s worldwide sales and marketing strategy, expanding opportunities for Cray products, collaborating with technical leaders, enhancing the capabilities of Cray’s global sales force and leading service and support for Cray’s worldwide customers.

Prior to joining Cray in 2003, Mr. Ungaro served as Vice President of Worldwide Deep Computing Sales for IBM, where he led global sales of all IBM server and storage products for high performance computing, life sciences, digital media and business intelligence markets. He coordinated IBM solutions teams that included sales, technical, marketing and product development personnel. Prior to that assignment, he served as IBM’s Vice President of Sales, Worldwide High Performance Computing, as well as in a variety of other sales leadership positions since joining IBM in 1991. Mr. Ungaro received a B.A. from Washington State University.

Ungaro spends most of his free time with his wife Brenda and their three kids. His 15 year old daughter is a competitive volleyball player (with trips to the U.S. Nationals/Junior Olympics three years in a row) and his twin boys, age 11 play a variety of sports (and anything else where they can get into trouble!). Growing up with Canadian parents, Ungaro is an avid hockey fan and enjoys pretty much any sport at the collegiate level. Not to mention the occasional round of golf with friends.
