The New Intelligent Engine for Secure, Agile, Multi-Cloud Data Centers

The onslaught of digital technologies and explosion of data have driven disruptive change to nearly every aspect of modern society, from business and industry, to manufacturing and engineering, to scientific research. These mounting data volumes hold the promise of deeper insight and actionable intelligence about the world around us; however, they are also leaving today’s enterprises struggling with a complex range of computational and analytical challenges.

Resolving these challenges requires high levels of compute performance, scalability, and efficiency. As businesses increasingly turn to high performance computing (HPC), Big Data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to empower their most innovative ideas, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and its partners are striving to deliver optimized platforms, infrastructure services and management capabilities, and advanced technology development expertise that will help these companies leverage new technologies into competitive advantage.

To that end, we’re pleased to share an exciting technology development from Intel Corporation, one of the industry’s leading chip makers and a longtime HPE partner. Early this summer, Intel will unveil its much-anticipated new server processor platform (code-named “Purley”) which is targeted at HPC and other next-generation applications.

Intel created this future-forward, advanced infrastructure to run the new Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable family (code-named “Skylake”), which is the successor to the Intel Xeon processor E5 and E7 product lines. Representing the largest set of data center platform advancements in this decade, this new platform will deliver workload-optimized performance for compute, network and storage.

The Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable family is the new foundation for secure, agile, multi-cloud data centers. Some of Intel’s large data center customers have already sampled the new platform through Intel’s Early Ship Program; however, it will become widely available for the first time in early July.

The new family of processors will feature integrated performance accelerators including Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (Intel® AVX-512), Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT), Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD), and Intel® Resource Director Technology. The new platform converges cutting-edge technology and a rich feature set to offer enhanced performance and support a variety of usage models, including HPC, enterprise, cloud, storage, and network applications.

Intel has led the server processor market for years, and continues to expand its role as a leading provider of the foundational technologies of data center computing. With this release, Intel is demonstrating a continued commitment to support not only large data center, supercomputing, and HPC customers, but also to play a key role in the future of computing.

As part of the Builders ecosystem, HPE is innovating alongside Intel to deliver a set of fully optimized, cost-efficient, and simple to deploy solutions that will help bring HPC technologies to a wider range of enterprises. We hope that the Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable family will be a catalyst for organizations thinking of modernizing their data centers, and drive business transformation across all operational processes. HPE will continue to ensure that all new iterations of Intel processors are supported on its industry-leading line of purpose-built HPC systems, and work alongside Intel to help usher in a new era of computing.
