Like the iconic blacklight, PSC’s new shared memory system is a blast from the past.
In what has become one of the busiest months ever for CPU introductions, Intel got its final say on Tuesday with the launch of its much-anticipated Nehalem EX. The new processor line encompasses the Xeon 7500 and 6500 series and will be the basis for shared memory SMP systems from dozens of server makers, including HPC stalwarts like Cray, SGI, and Bull.
Six, eight and twelve cores. The true multicore era for x86 is just around the corner.
ScaleMP has added two new virtual SMP products to its lineup: a dynamic cloud provisioning offering and a new switchless entry-level product for four-node clusters. Both are based on the company’s vSMP Foundation technology, a software solution that turns x86 clusters into virtual SMP machines.
Startup 3Leaf Systems has launched its first product offering, the Dynamic Data Center Server (DDC-Server). It is a combination of silicon and software that pools server CPU and memory into dynamically-sized virtual servers. Essentially it aggregates hardware resources so that a cluster farm can be turned into one or more SMP systems.
