Expanding enCORE with CFD

July 19, 2013

Britain HPC systems integrator OCF has made noise with regard to high performance applications in the cloud, bringing online an 8,000-node HPC cluster called enCORE last year. This week, they announced an expansion of enCORE’s capabilities. Specifically, they brought in the XFlow Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to expand their HPC capabilities. Read more…

A Different Approach to HPC Cloud Servicing

July 11, 2013

A company called Third Wave Systems (TWS) developed a new algorithm and high performance computing paradigm to solve machining simulation problems. In the same paper in which they introduced that method, they also outlined a plan to make such simulation capability available to those without the access to dedicated HPC resources. Read more…

IQBG and the Benefits of the Cloud-First Initiative

July 10, 2013

One D.C.-area company called IQ Business Group (IQBG) has already reaped the benefits of the cloud emphasis, having secured a $53 million contract with the Department of the Interior (DOI) over eight years. IQBG has been tapped to provide the DOI with a workable SaaS platform upon which the federal agency can relocate its emails and files. Read more…

Examining Questions of Virtualization and Security in the Cloud

June 13, 2013

When considering moving excess or experimental HPC applications to a cloud environment, there will always be obstacles. Were that not the case, the cost effectiveness of cloud-based HPC would rule the high performance landscape. Jonathan Stewart Ward and Adam Barker of the University of St. Andrews produced an intriguing report on the state of cloud computing, paying a significant amount of attention to the problems facing cloud computing. Whitepaper

5 HPC Optimization Techniques

For many organizations, decisions about whether to run HPC workloads in the cloud or in on-premises datacenters are less all-encompassing and more about leveraging both infrastructures strategically to optimize HPC workloads across hybrid environments. From multi-clouds to on-premises, dark, edge, and point of presence (PoP) datacenters, data comes from all directions and in all forms while HPC workloads run in every dimension of modern datacenter schemes. HPC has become multi-dimensional and must be managed as such.

This white paper explores several of these new strategies and tools for optimizing HPC workloads across all dimensions to achieve breakthrough results in Microsoft Azure.
