Nov. 17, 2021 — Cornelis Networks has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) as an HPC network provider for the NNSA’s Tri-Laboratory Commodity Technology System 2 (CTS-2) system contract. NNSA’s Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program recently awarded Dell Technologies a contract to deliver computing systems totaling more than 40 petaflops to the agency’s national labs, including Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories, in support of NNSA’s nuclear deterrent mission. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) led the procurement effort on behalf of NNSA.
“We’re happy to be working with our partner Cornelis Networks to supply the interconnects for our next round of commodity systems across the NNSA complex, allowing us to satisfy the increasing requirements of our high-performance computing, data analytics, and machine learning workflows,” said International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC21) General Chair Bronis R. de Supinski, chief technology officer of Livermore Computing at LLNL. “This partnership is particularly relevant now as we celebrate SC21, in which networking is one of the major focal points.”
The CTS-2 contract will be deployed in increments of scalable units (SUs). Each unit will include ~1.5 petaflops with deployments starting mid-2022 running through 2025. Each unit will feature the next-generation Dell EMC Power Edge C6620 and R760 Servers and next-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, also known as Sapphire Rapids.
With CTS-2, the team at Cornelis is excited to enter the next chapter of its collaboration with the NNSA, having previously delivered the high performance networks for TLCC2 and CTS-1. Working closely with our ecosystem partners, Dell Technologies and Intel, Cornelis Networks is looking forward to delivering on-going fabric innovations to the DOE under the CTS-2 contract.
Cornelis Networks will be participating as an exhibitor, both in-person and virtually, at the 2021 International Conference for Higher Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC21) in St. Louis, November 14 -19. Visit us at booth #819 and at our virtual booth.
