The U.S. Federal Government And Cloud Computing

Author of the recent Brookings Institution report on government savings and benefits for a federal shift to the cloud in the United States states that savings will be dramatic. However, before these cost savings can be realized there needs to be some initial spending to spur cloud efforts as well as a thorough review of existing data on the subject. These determinations should account for the level of security required for different operations. Also, it is important for new standards to be created that are international in scope to avoid a “Tower of Babel” scenario with drastically different cloud computing best practices in different regions.
