Emeryville, CA — Sybase, Inc. announced transaction processing price/performance results for the Transaction Processing Performance Council’s TPC-C Benchmark. The industry-leading price/performance results were achieved on Sybase’s Enterprise Information Portal-ready database, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 — and Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) currently available 9000 V-Class Enterprise Server running 32 processors. Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 is scheduled for general availability in Q4 of this year.

Designed to handle highly demanding workloads with unpredictable peaks in transaction processing, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 delivers unique functionality to empower customers with tools to capitalize on the opportunities of e-Business. Combined, Sybase’s portal-ready database and HP’s latest-generation server deliver outstanding TPC-C Benchmark performance using significantly fewer processors than most recent competitors’ benchmarks, providing a more cost-effective solution and increasing the reliability of the entire system.

While most recent competitor’s benchmark achieved only slightly higher performance results using twice the number of processors, the Sybase/HP system delivered 102,023 transactions per minute (tpmC), with a price/performance of $64/tpmC. Sybase and HP are the first to achieve these results with only a 32 processor system and only the second single SMP system to deliver tpmC results greater than 100,000.

The Sybase benchmark was set with Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 running on a 32-way HP V2500 processor delivering industry-leading price/performance of $64/tpmC on high-end servers.
