The 12th HPC Connection Workshop, an international High-Performance Computing summit, will be hosted at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China on April 21, 2016. The workshop will be held during the final round of the ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC16) which will occur from April 18 to April 22.
The HPC Connection Workshop is organized jointly by the Asia Supercomputer Community and Inspur Group. The event takes place three times a year: during the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), the Supercomputing Conference (SC), and the ASC Challenge. The theme of the 12th HPC Connection Workshop is HPC: Challenges & Opportunities.

Currently, the integration of the Internet with traditional and emerging sectors has driven growth in areas of Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and wearable gadgets. This expansion has generated an explosive increase of data that requires computing and processing. Supercomputing, as one of the top three major tools for modern scientific research, is playing a more significant role. China recently has made impressive progress in the field of supercomputing. Its Tianhe-2 system has been ranked six consecutive times as the world’s fastest supercomputer. However, scientists around the world are facing challenges such as improving a supercomputer’s performance and scalability, designing a supercomputer with higher performance yet lower power consumption, and solving more difficult problems induced by new applications.
The HPC Connection Workshop is committed to exploring application innovation and current development in emerging fields of front-end science and engineering. During the event, top researchers and leading professionals worldwide will gather together to discuss disruptive technologies and latest trends. The discussion will also focus on how HPC will respond in order to continue inspiring novel applications. Having been held eleven times in Europe, America, and Asia, the workshop has greatly promoted knowledge exchange and sparked extensive conversations in the global HPC community.
