RES Seminar on Financial Mathematics and Supercomputing to Be Held September at CESGA

July 20, 2018

July 20, 2018 — Once again, the Spanish Supercomputing Network is sponsoring a scientific seminar in order to improve the productivity, quality and sustainability of scientific software in the field of engineering and computer science. Planned for September 26, the seminar will focus on financial mathematics and supercomputing.

The organizers — Appentra, CESGA, ITMATI and UDC — affirm that “It is of vital importance to create an ecosystem of methodologies, good practices, processes and tools that allow to develop better scientific software for HPC.”

For this reason, the seminar will be free to everyone wishing to attend, as well as the meals. The event has a full agenda that starts at 9am and ends at 5pm. The event will be held at the same time as a 5-day hackathon whose objective is to accelerate the execution of scientific applications of the participating teams with the use of parallel programming.

Attendees are expected to range from master’s and doctoral students to well-established scientists. The synergies generated by the celebration of the hackathon co-organized by CESGA and Appentra will help to make the most out of the day.

The program revolves around presentations of researchers in the field of quantitative finance, in which they will share  their own experiences using supercomputing, as well as the challenges they face in the development of quality numerical simulation programs allowing them to minimize the effort and cost of software development and maintenance, maximizing the results of their R&D projects.
