Redwood Shores, CA -- Oracle Corp. announced that Woolworth, the $8 billion retail giant, is standardizing on Oracle Universal Data Server with Oracle Parallel Server as its core global information infrastructure. The project is part of a company-wide transition from legacy mainframe systems to a network computing paradigm. Oracle Universal Data Server was selected to provide robust, scalable performance for up to 5,000 users nationwide. "Woolworth selected Oracle because it provides the broadest support for our third-party applications, as well as the technical vision to help Woolworth succeed in a project of this magnitude," said Tom Beauchamp, Woolworth vice president of MIS. "The level of support we received from Oracle both before and after the sale was superb." Another reason Woolworth chose Oracle Parallel Server is to meet the support, scalability and performance needs of its $8 billion enterprise. Through its business alliance programs and professional services organization, Oracle provides Woolworth and its packaged application vendors with additional support. Oracle products will initially be implemented to provide on-line transaction processing and data management for Woolworth's financial, human resources, payroll, warehouse management, merchandizing management and planning, and decision support systems. "Oracle Universal Data Server has become the leading database of choice for organizations dealing with such data processing complexity as Woolworth," said Mark Jarvis, vice president Server Marketing, Oracle Corp. "Combined with our vision of the Network Computing Architecture, we offer a bridge to the future for enterprise computing."
