Las Vegas, CA — ANDATACO announced that Encore Video is now deploying ANDATACO’s GigaRAID/FC at the new facility of its subsidiary, Filmcore, in Santa Monica, Calif. This implementation adds to a long, successful run for ANDATACO’s SCSI RAID storage solution at Encore’s post-production facility in Hollywood, Calif. Boston-based Mercury Computer Systems is partnering with ANDATACO in the state-of-the-art Fibre Channel installation.
Encore Video has a long history of using RAID technology throughout the editing process for commercials, feature films, Movies of the Week and episodic television shows. The company began building an ANDATACO RAID storage base a little less than two years ago. They began with a simple GigaRAID JBOD system with 8 drives that met their requirements, proved reliable, and ran very cool in the box, of prime importance in the world of film and video. They added the GigaRAID/SX hardware RAID controller to the mix later on, which improved the system’s overall performance and increased availability, leading to the ultimate goal of enhanced productivity.
Later, Encore had trouble with a competitor’s RAID array which they were using in their 3D department–a major crash–and they lost a large amount of material. Encore worked with ANDATACO to come up with a solution concept that would retain as much of their initial investment as possible and still provide the reliability they required. ANDATACO worked with Encore to implement the solution that worked perfectly for both Encore’s animation farm and MIS department.
“Our prior experience with ANDATACO made me confident that they would be able to put our concept into practice and make it work,” said Rick Breniser, technical manager for non-linear editing at Encore. “Our relationship with ANDATACO continues to grow. We have had wonderful success with ANDATACO products, service and support and they have been willing to bring us best-of-breed products from other companies when we need them.”
